Dried ogbono seeds are obtained from the fruits of African bush mango or wild mango, scientifically known as Irvingia gabonensis. When grounded, it is used to prepare special soups known as Ogbono and okro soups respectively. The soups are prepared with vegetables such as pumpkin leaf or bitter leaf, meat, fresh, smoked, or dried fish, stockfish, palm oil, and seasoning agents. Soups made from Ogbono seeds have mucilaginous texture and can be eaten with garri, wheat, yam, or plantain flours, grounded rice, pulverized oatmeal, or any other swallow. Ogbono seeds have health benefit in that it is rich in dietary fiber which helps to lower cholesterol.
